VP DP weeks 3 and 4 Digital Arts Festival

Our Academy of Digital Media happens to be at the largest action sports camp in the world.  Coincidence?  I think not.  Woodward produces some of the top athletes in the world and has been doing so for over two decades.  It is inevitable that with the rapid growth of digital technology and media that we should launch a platform to produce some of the best videographers and photographers as well.  With such amazing facilities and athletes to work with it was only a matter of time before Woodward started to produce some of the best filmers and shooters in the world as well.  Kids not only get to learn how to film and shoot photos of action sports, but they get to do it with the greatest skateboarders, bmxers, and inliners in the world.

Our 1st and 2nd Academy of Digital Media Arts Festival of 2009 turned out to be a big hit among pros and staff at woodward.  All week long the video and photo campers are out and about filming and shooting with some of the best skateboarders, bmxers, and inliners in the world.  We had some amazing talent for our campers these two weeks to learn from and of course they were super down to clock some footy and snap some pics for our cameras.  The kids all got amazing shots and went home with a ton of new knowledge in their heads and smiles on their faces.

Here are some photos from our first two weeks of the new VP and DP camp.

Week 4 studio day in Cloud 9

Thursday of week 9 turned out to be an exciting day for all of the Video and Photography Production campers.  We took control of Cloud 9 and turned it into a full on studio with multiple stations for campers to rotate to and from.  Video campers learned how to use the track and dolly,  stationary with a tripod, and how to get up close and personal on the vert ramp with the fish eye.  Photo campers had a really good session on learning studio lighting setups as well as how to get in tight on the deck with a fisheye and professional flash setup.  It was a big turn out with pros and staff for all the kids to document.  Some of the best athletes in the world such as Jamie Bestwick, Mike Frazier, Karl Watson, Adelmo Jr. and the beautiful ladies from camp such as olympians Lilia Podkapova, Elise Ray and Kelsey Ream.  Kids worked hands on with these athletes and models and produced some amazing videos and photos.  Check out the edit that our video camp intern Josh Zucker put together.

Week 3 Digital Photography Studio Day

So this was our first week ever for the Digital Photography Camp!  The first few days the kids learned how to use their cameras, learned Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2.0, and learned how to shoot with off camera flashes.  On Thursday we set up a studio and invited some campers and pro skateboarders Lee Berman and Kevin Coakley to do some modeling for our Digital Photography campers.  Kids got to work hands on with professional lighting equipment and also some top skateboard pros.   Check out this video for what went down on our studio day of week 3.
